A medical data platform company that has become a key partner in the pharmaceutical and biotech sectors, JNPMEDI (CEO, Kwunho Jeong) announced on the 20th that they have launched the next-generation medical coder, ‘Maven Coder Express’ which has been developed by using Amazon Web Service's (short for AWS) generative AI technology.
Symptoms and medical observations recorded by medical professionals in a colloquial language during clinical trials and research, needs to be manually mapped through medical coding to medical dictionaries. This process is time-consuming and prone to errors, which can complicate clinical trials.
JNPMEDI has created Maven Coder Express to solve these issues by leveraging the generative AI technology offered by AWS. After approximately two months of development, a Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) architecture was applied to this system, enhancing prompts by retrieving data from company sources, thus providing more relevant and accurate responses.
Maven Coder Express works based on three models: Anthropic's large language model ‘Claude 3.5 Sonnet’, the cost-effective ‘Claude 3 Haiku’, and AWS’s ‘Amazon Titan Text Embeddings v2’. Anthropic’s Claude models have demonstrated high-performance domain expertise across various fields such as business, finance, analytics, coding, and multilingual natural language processing (NLP), supporting accurate AI applications across different cases and industries. Maven Coder Express utilizes the official MedDRA Dictionary in its RAG framework. Amazon Bedrock automates the entire RAG workflow, including data collection, retrieval, prompt augmentation, and citation, allowing analysts and developers to focus on more valuable tasks instead of custom code development for data source integration and query management.
Maven Coder Express has officially achieved Certified MedDRA Coder (CMC) certification, validating its high accuracy and consistency in medical data coding. Through this certification, it is able to accurately code and manage clinical trial data, drug adverse event reports, and other medical information using standardized terminology.
Maven Coder Express is installed in Maven Clinical Cloud, JNPMEDI’s cloud-based clinical trial solution that supports efficient and dependable clinical trial operations from protocol creation to data collection and analysis, uses natural language processing and AI technology to translate verbatim input from clinical trial researchers into standardized medical terminology (MedDRA), reducing the time by up to 80% and increasing coding accuracy to improve data quality and consistency.
