Artificial intelligence is reshaping the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industry, which has long struggled with high costs and low development efficiency. Drug development depends on large-scale data processing and repeated validation across discovery, preclinical, clinical and safety stages, fueling strong demand for advanced AI technologies.
The shift is accelerating as the U.S. Food and Drug Administration moves toward phasing out mandatory animal testing, increasing interest in AI-driven drug development platforms and companies with differentiated capabilities. According to the Korea Health Industry Development Institute, the generative AI–based drug discovery market is projected to grow from $250 million in 2024 to $2.8 billion by 2034.

The company said JWave applies more than 20 AI models to large biological and chemical datasets to accelerate hit identification and lead optimization.
Hanmi Pharmaceutical said it has been selected as a participating research organization for the government-led “2025 K-AI Drug Development Preclinical and Clinical Model Development Project,” which aims to develop AI software for reverse translational research that feeds clinical data back into preclinical stages.
Lunit said it has signed a collaboration agreement with Daiichi Sankyo to apply its AI biomarker platform, Lunit SCOPE, to two oncology pipelines under development. The collaboration includes AI-based biomarker discovery, optimization of translational and clinical studies, and precise patient stratification.
